Review
Google Photos Screensaver is one of the applications included in the Google Pack. Basically, this software is a screensaver “manager” with the special ability of combining multiple photographs sources and use them to create a screensaver for your PC. This extremely easy-to-use application fully integrates with the operating system as all you will be seeing of it is an extra option on the regular drop down list of screensavers of Windows.
But let’s begin for the installation process. You need to enter the Google Pack page on Internet and download the pack selecting which application you want to include. If you’re interested only in this one, just select it and press the download button. What you download in this step is not the Screensaver per se but the Google Updater. When you finish the download execute it and you will see a window from where you can start downloading the Screensaver, an .exe file of about 4.5 Mb. Installation upon downloading is automatically and the Display properties dialog from Windows will open.
New in the list will appear “Google Photos Screensaver” to activate it. Using the “Setting” button on the side you will access to the settings window to configure the application. First thing you see is the Visual Effect drop down list. The options are: Pan & Zoom (default), Collage, Wipe and Cross Fade. A little screen will preview your choice.
Below this area you will see the “Display photos from” section. Four options available to know:
• Picasa!: A direct access to download Picasa, the photographs software from Google. This option only appears if you don’t already have Picasa installed on your computer.
• Picasa Web Albums: you need a Google user account to access this option.
• Specific folder on my computer: to display your own pictures located on your hard disk.
• Photo feeds: to display photos from Internet. You can add additional feeds.
The better part of this is that you can combine the mentioned options instead of choosing only one.
When you use the Photo feeds option the quality of the photos displayed is just outstanding. Every picture shows a legend with the name of the place photographed and the author of the shot. |
